When I got this book, both my friend and I got to do a 'book club' with it. So when I got around to reading The Obsession by Jesse Q. Sutanto, I was excited. A stalker boy with a girl who has secrets? Sign me up! However, I will admit that the beginning of this book, for me at least, felt slow and like nothing was really happening, and when things were picking up, it slowed down BUT once it picked up, that is when it all changed for me. I couldn't put it down. Actually. I spend 4 hours finishing the book.
I wasn't sure what would happen next. I loved the dual point of view, and at first, I didn't like the switching of POVs but I think that is one of the reasons why it picked up so well for me. I loved seeing how Dee's thoughts were on the situation, how she was nearly going into mental turmoil from Logan. How Lorgan's delusions lead him on his own path. Logan reminded me of Joe Goldberg from YOU, and I do not like that man! I give Sutanto props for making a character so unlikable that I psychically roll my eyes and sigh whenever Logan opens up his mouth. Because Logan, truly believes what he says and his own madness.
The Obsession talks about heavy subjects that Sustanto does a wonderful job of showing the realness of what she talks about. How these subjects not only affects the characters but others around them and even how they affect the reader. Sustanto does a great job at this.
This book isn't for everyone and some may give this book a higher rank than I did, but for me, it wasn't my personal favorite. Now I wonder what that friend would give it...
