*sighs* This book was unfortunately a big disappointment for me. I was so excited to finally read this book as it had been on my TDR since I got it. Hollywood? Queer Romance? Horror Final Girls? Talented Make-up Artist? That sounds like everything I want in a queer Hollywood romance! However, it turned out to be a disappointment for me.
I am not saying that Jennet Alexander isn't a talented writer, because they are! Their writing style at certain moments was really fun and I can tell how much love they put into the work, but for me, it just fell flat. The parts that got me hooked, ended too quickly for me, not letting me enjoy that moment. I believe that the filler that was in this book was more detailed than the moments that should have gotten more love.
Then, this book became something completely different in the end. I will not give it away, as some may want to read it and may have a different outlook on this book, but the ending was completely different from what it was. I personally couldn't sit down and read it, I needed either an audiobook or TTS to help me get through.
I will give credit where credit is due, as stated before I can feel that Alexander had a clear passion for what they were writing as it talks in great detail and subject matter of topics like sexuality and gender, religious identity, and future goals as both Noa and Lilha are queer and Jewish. I did enjoy the sparking. friendship and even romance of these two as Lilha explores who she is alongside Noa.
Overall, this book could have been so much for me, but unfortunately, it fell flat. However, if you are still interested in the premise that I brought up, then this could be a fun read for you.
